Juvenile 112 conviction Political Prisoners in Thailand

A couple of days ago we posted on the juvenile lese majeste case facing 19 year-old Noppasin Sainam Treelayapewat from a case when he was 16.

ChannelNews Asia reports that hes been given a 12-month jail term, suspended for two years.

The court deemed a message painted on his body was mockery to the king. As usual, the court went gushy royalist declaring: The king is of a sacred status that should not be violated.

He was sentenced to three years in jail, but as the defendant committed the crime when he was a minor aged 16, it was reduced by half to one year and six months. Because he also provided useful testimony, the sentence was reduced to 12 months.

Pita Touches the Third Rail of Thai Politics "IndyWatch Feed War"

If you touch it, you die.

Thats the supposed result for politicians who confront highly contentious issues. Likened to grasping the third rail, the one that provides the electricity that powers a train or subway, the result is political suicideat least that was the metaphor attributed to U.S. House Speaker Thomas Tip ONeill when discussing the topic of Social Security in the early 1980s, as any politician attempting to reform the largest social safety net for retired American workers would later cost them their political careers at the ballot box.

Pita Limjaroenrat, the prime ministerial candidate of the progressive Move Forward Party, which upset Thailands conservative military-backed parties in the May 14 election, also touched on a sensitive national issue: lse-majest. In the end it was responsible in part in ending his chances at becoming prime minister, as Thailands Constitutional Court suspended his duties as a member of Parliament, and was blocked from a second parliamentary vote. Two lingering questions remain after a month of post-election drama: whether pushing for Article 112 reform so soon was worth it, and whether Move Forward had the foresight to predict this outcome.

Known in Thailand as Article 112 of the Criminal Code, lse-majest (royal insult) dates back to 1908 and warns that anyone who defames, insults or threatens the king, the queen, the heir-apparent or the regent is punishable by up to 13 years in prison. The vaguely worded law provides a wide interpretation as to what constitutes an insult, giving those who weaponize it great flexibility. With anyone being able to file a complaint and the police mandated to investigate claims, Article 112 is not only worrisome for Thais, but has become an issue of international concern. Many have fallen victim, even children, as the military government of Prayut Chan-ocha sought to crack down on dissent. In 2020, he vowed in 2020 to use all laws, all articles, to take action against protesters who broke the law, referring then to protesters who defied police use of water cannons and tear gas.

Move Forward first signaled it would call for the repeal of Article 112 in January 2021, taking up a popular challenge from anti-coup and pro-reform protests that began in 2020, and a day after four prominent protest le...

From a Reader who escaped from the West "IndyWatch Feed Economics"

From a Reader who escaped from the West

Hello Dr. Roberts

In your recent essay, The Looting of Medicare you asked for comment fromolder readers. I read your essays every day.

My age is 79. So, Im an older reader

More than 20 years ago, it was easy to see this nonsense on the horizon.

Im sure easy for you to see, too.

Not with perfect clarity, but enough to know that a big storm was coming, very, very big.

There was no fixing the problems, that aspect was clear.  As for myself,  I ran away as fast and as far as I could.  Got out of the USA and moved to the other side of the world, to Thailand, where I am now.

Over here, I never get anything from Medicare. If they do send anything, Ill just ignore it.

In my view, you are certainly not wasting your time writing as you do.

I find your thinking and your analysis highly valuable.

But two facts stand out:

#1 There are so few other men writing as you do.

Makes your thinking even more valuable for being so scarce.

#2 Why, sir, are you still there?

Certainly you could escape, but you are still inside the fence.

Wouldnt you enjoy your remaining years more if you were far away?

Finally, as I read your essays, I often wonder

what will happen to you, if they cancel you?

Where else is there a voice of reason like yours?

I wish youd consider an email list, that was quiet and private and difficult to cancel.

Perhaps right here on Proton mail.

Id gladly pay for a subscription for that.

Very best regards,

Updated: Ruling class veto Political Prisoners in Thailand

Thailands greedy and obscene ruling class has struck again, this time preventing a second vote on Pita Limjaroenrats second effort to get approved as prime minister. As has become common in the courts in recent years, the old guard, military-backed, royalists in parliament decided to make up the rules in order to prevent Pita being renominated.

Heres what some international publications have to say.

BBC News:

Outside parliament, Move Forward supporters wondered what the point of the election had been.  Why ask people to go to the polls? Why dont you just pick someone from your families to be the prime minister? asked one man.

Art Chaturongkul, a 39-year-old living in Bangkok, said he and fellow supporters are deeply concerned as they see Mr Pita as representing their voices in the parliament.
Im filled with mixed emotions. Utter rage, frustration, and disappointment. It feels like a setback to the democratic process.

[D]espite winning the election, Mr Pita may have to accept not only giving up the top job, but having no place at all in the new government.

Why the West is Whitewashing Terrorism in Vietnam and Myanmar "IndyWatch Feed Asia"

July 19, 2023 (Brian Berletic - New Eastern Outlook) - As US-Chinese tensions grow and as it becomes increasingly clear the US is unable to compete with China head-to-head in terms of development, trade, and investment, especially in regions along Chinas periphery, the US is resorting increasingly to asymmetrical measures including political coercion, subversion, and even violence.

US military aggression and political subversion, particularly in Southeast Asia, spans many decades. Besides the Vietnam War and the related conflicts which raged across Laos, Cambodia, and even Thailand in the 20th century, more recently the United States has backed an increasingly unified regional bloc of opposition groups sometimes referred to as the Milk Tea Alliance.

The so-called alliance includes opposition groups promoted heavily across Western media in Myanmar, Thailand, and Hong Kong all three of which have incorporated deadly violence on varying scales to advance both their own political ambitions as well as advance US foreign policy objectives. The US has also attempted to create similar opposition groups elsewhere in Southeast Asia, though with less success, receiving little media coverage, and thus are poorly understood by the general public if and when their violence does make headlines.

Two recent examples of terrorism in Southeast Asia highlight the enduring threat of US-backed violence in the region.

One attack was carried out by Myanmars opposition, a movement heavily-promoted by Western governments and the Western media. The other was carried out by extremists among a lesser-known ethnic group in Vietnam. Both attacks have been spun, whitewashed, and even justified by the Western media, and by doing so, encouraging future violence...

They Tried To Censor The Sound Of Freedom With An Air Horn "IndyWatch Feed Nthamerica"

There I was sitting in the movie theatre trying to watch Sound of Freedom, when I heard the sound of an air horn.

Bwaam! Bom-bom-bom-bom-bwaam!

Jim Caviezel, who plays Tim Ballard, the agent who saves the children, had just appeared. I could not believe what I heard. But there it was again.

Bwaam! Bom-bom-bom-bom-bwaam! Bwaam!

Certainly, someone in the theatre would stop this sound. Others would complain and tell the staff to figure out who or what was making that noise.

I had read reports about theatre chains across America that were censoring this movie. So many businesses have fallen for the Biden Mafias wokification and antifa mobology. I thought of this suppression.

As Jim Caviezel was pretending to be a pedophile (Jim is not one, and I can tell cause I can look at someone and know), I heard the sound once more.

Bwaam! Bom-bom-bom-bom-bwaam! Bom-bom-bom! Bwaam!

Each time it lasted a bit longer. Nobody in the theatre moved. I dont know how they could think this was part of the movie.

Someone, perhaps a theatre manager or a shapeshifting chaos agent deputized by Hunter Biden, was behind it. I knew I was being targeted because of my recent posts on Twitter warning everyone that Kamala Harris has replaced Joe Biden with Doug, her husband, and he wears Bidens face. (We dont really ever see Doug and Joe together.)

Normally, at this WMV theatre in Sunnydale, California, a person will check on how the movie is doing. They did not send anybody. After I jotted down some notes about the child sex club in Thailand (for a project), I went to get a manager.

What I told the front desk was that there was an infiltrator trying to drive people away from the movie. The infiltrator especially wanted anyone who was open to learning about criminal pedophile rings to leave. Anyone who was closed off to this issue would not hear the blare of the horn.

There are all kinds of scientific studies about how you can condition people to pick up certain auditory sensations. It can be different if you are a pedophobe. Or think about women with newborns who have just eaten the placenta after their birth.

I returned to my seat. The manager stood near the exit. Just as I expected whoever was making the noise was no longer doing it. Then the manager left, and I heard it again.

Bwaam! Bom-bom-bom-bom-bwaam! Bwaam!

Bwaam! Bom-bom-bom-bom-bwaam! Bom-bom-bom! Bwaam!

Bwaam! Bom-bom-bom-bom-bwaam! Bwaam!

Moving row to row, I tried to identify who the person was with the air horn. The theatre was not helpful. I wa...

Mideast, Africa Emerge as New Popular Destinations for Chinese Tourists This Summer

By Cui Fandi and Zhang Changyue

With the dog days of the year coming along with the summer holidays, Chinese travelers are unleashing their long pent-up energy on trips overseas. Some unexpected names have become new favorites on their list of destinations in addition to the traditional destinations in Europe and the US, including some countries in the Middle East and Africa.

Data from online travel platform Tuniu shows that since June, there has been a huge demand for visas for destinations including Singapore, Thailand, France, Malaysia, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, Vietnam, Greece and Russia, which are among the most popular overseas destinations in the summer. Ranked in the top 10 destinations, there are only four European countries, and no US.

European countries remain among the main destinations chosen by most clients, but many have turned their interest to destinations that are not the usual favorites, including Switzerland, Iceland, Serbia and the Caucasus region, Han Jie, head of CYTS Aoyou Travel Technology Development, told the Global Times on Monday.

In addition, some unexpected destinations appeared on the hot destination list, such as some Middle Eastern and African countries. These new hot destinations include South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, the UAE and Iran, Han said.

Data from another online travel platform Trip.com also shows a similar trend - just as Europe and other traditional popular destinations showed a trend to cool down, the Middle East and Africa market has become the summer outbound travel market "dark horse," media outlet The Paper reported Monday.
