KLANG: Klang akan menjadi bandar raya selepas kerajaan semalam bersetuju dan meluluskan cadangan bagi menaik taraf Majlis Perbandaran Klang (MPK) kepada status Majlis Bandaraya Klang, kata Menteri Pembangunan Kerajaan Tempatan (KPKT) Nga Kor Ming.

Beliau berkata keputusan yang dicapai menerusi Mesyuarat Jemaah Menteri itu bakal menyaksikan MPK sebagai pihak berkuasa tempatan (PBT) keempat berstatus bandar raya di Selangor selepas Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya, Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam dan Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya.

"MPK telah ditubuhkan sejak 1890 dan kini telah memenuhi semua kriteria bagi mencapai status bandar raya pada usia 133 tahun. MPK berupaya menyediakan antaranya perkhidmatan yang cemerlang, kemudahan infrastruktur dan utiliti awam yang terbaik serta berkeupayaan membentuk jenama bandar raya yang unik serta berimejkan bandar warisan dan sejarah.

"Penaiktarafan (Klang) sebagai bandar raya ke-20 itu (seluruh negara) bermaksud MPK mempunyai kekuatan kewangan yang mampan untuk menyediakan perkhidmatan perbandaran yang cekap, berkualiti serta bertaraf antarabangsa bagi meningkatkan daya huni dan kesejahteraan rakyat di Klang," katanya kepada pemberita sempena Program Sentuhan Kasih KPKT di sini hari ini.

Nga berkata pengisytiharan Klang sebagai bandar raya akan dilakukan dalam satu majlis selepas mendapat perkenan Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Selaras dengan pengumuman penaiktarafan itu, Nga berkata kementeriannya menerusi Program Sentuhan Kasih KPKT turut meluluskan sebanyak 21 projek berjumlah RM5 juta bagi menaik taraf kemudahan awam sekitar PBT tersebut, yang akan bermula dalam kadar segera dan dijangka siap menjelang akhir tahun ini.

"Peruntukan akan melibatkan proses naik taraf kemudahan awam antaranya Pasar Pelabuhan Klang, gerai-gerai di kawasan Pelabuhan Klang, Jalan Goh Hock Huat atau Jalan Keretapi Lama serta laluan pejalan kaki dan basikal di Jambatan Kota, Klang," katanya.

Sementara itu, Yang Dipertua MPK Noraini Roslan berkata pihaknya telah menyediakan logo dan bendera baharu yang kini dalam proses untuk dimuktamadkan.

IPOH: Video tular yang memaparkan anak ular tedung menyusur di bawah badan seorang kanak-kanak lelaki berusia empat tahun, adalah kejadian dua hari lepas dan ular itu telah berjaya ditangkap.

Penolong Pengarah Bahagian Operasi Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM) Perak, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad berkata kanak-kanak tersebut juga dilaporkan selamat.

"Kejadian berlaku di rumah pengasuh kanak-kanak itu di Taman Serai Perdana, Bagan Serai (Perak). Bomba menerima panggilan daripada pengasuh itu pada 11.28 pagi, 24 Julai lalu.

"Setibanya di tempat kejadian didapati seekor anak ular senduk berada di bawah kanak-kanak di ruang tamu. Tindakan segera anggota bomba memastikan keadaan selamat," katanya dalam kenyataan di sini hari ini.

Sabarodzi berkata anggota telah menggunakan penyepit ular untuk menangkap ular senduk tersebut dan berjaya ditangkap serta dibawa ke lokasi yang sesuai dan dilepaskan," katanya.

Terdahulu tular di laman sosial video berdurasi 19 saat memaparkan seekor ular senduk menyusur di bawah badan seorang kanak-kanak lelaki yang sedang berbaring di ruang tamu.

Video tersebut telah ditonton 4.3 juta pengguna dan menimbulkan kegusaran dan persoalan dalam kalangan netizen.

BANDAR PERMAISURI: Seorang pembantu kedai dijatuhi hukuman denda RM7,000 oleh Mahkamah Sesyen Setiu di sini, hari ini selepas mengaku bersalah melakukan hantaran video lucah kepada bekas teman wanitanya tahun lepas.

Hakim Ahmad Fadhli Mahmud menjatuhkan hukuman itu selepas Muhammad Iqyyum Basri, 25, mengaku salah terhadap pertuduhan mengikut Seksyen 233(1) (a) Akta Komunikasi dan Multimedia 1998 (Akta 588) yang boleh dihukum mengikut Seksyen 233 (3) akta sama.

Jika sabit kesalahan tertuduh boleh didenda tidak lebih RM50,000 atau penjara maksima setahun atau kedua-duanya sekali dan boleh juga didenda selanjutnya RM1,000 bagi setiap hari kesalahan itu diteruskan selepas pensabitan.

Mengikut pertuduhan, Muhammad Iqyyum didakwa secara sedar membuat dan memulakan penghantaran komunikasi iaitu video yang lucah sifatnya dengan niat untuk menyakiti hati orang lain menggunakan aplikasi WhatsApp.

Video itu kemudiannya dilihat pada 8 Mac 2022, pukul 8.24 malam di No. 40, Kampung Padang Serai, Guntong di sini.

Hakim turut memerintahkan supaya tertuduh yang berasal dari Senawang, Negeri Sembilan dipenjara tiga bulan jika tidak membayar denda dikenakan, namun tertuduh membayar denda berkenaan.

Pendakwaan dikendalikan Pegawai Pendakwa Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (MCMC) Siti Hajar Sulaiman, manakala tertuduh tidak diwakili peguam.

KUALA LUMPUR: The political secretary to Fahmi Fadzil, the Communications and Digital Minister today confirmed making a report against Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris or 'Sir Azri' following a slanderous statement relating to Good Vibes Festival.

The report was lodged by Abdullah Izhar Mohamed Yusof at 11.12 am at Pantai police station on a 3.24 seconds video on Facebook by Wan Muhammad Azri or better known as 'Papagomo' which allegedly slandered and disparaged the government by saying that 'The 1975' incident was staged by the government.

Abdullah Izhar in a statement today said the report was made to enable police to expedite investigation on the Facebook account of Sir Azri as well as the man who slandered the government in the video.

"I also urged police to investigate all social media platforms owned by Sir Azri to ensure the defamation or fake news is not disseminated to Malaysians. The act will only threaten the peace and harmony of the races and religion," he said.

In the video, there was a conversation between the Facebook Account with a man claiming to be a former crew of the concert organiser.

The statement also said the special branch had obtained the statement of the complainant and the report was made to strongly deny the slanders made by the individual involved.

The complainant was reported as having seen the Facebook post at 5.51 pm at the office of the Lermbah Pantai MP yesterday.

Commenting on 'The 1975' incident, he said the government had taken steps immediately to cancel the festival but the issue was manipulated to become a platform for a handful of people with political motives to topple the government.

"Therefore, the authorities should take form actions against the Facebook account owner known as Sir Azri or Papagomo so that it would not be followed by other parties to slander the government," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: The hosting of a concert by leading rock band from the United Kingdom, Muse, at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium (SNBJ) this Saturday (July 29) will not affect the replacement process of the pitch with Zeon Zeoysia grass, which is currently underway.

Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia (PSM) Chief Executive Officer Mohd Faidz Sanusi said so far the new grass has not been planted while the surface of the SNBJ pitch which is covered in sand will be protected with a 'pitch cover' throughout the concert titled Will of The People World Tour 2023.

"It is not affected (the grass replacement process), there is no more grass, only the drainage system has been settled.

"After the end of the Muse concert, the contractor will start planting new grass from Aug 1 and it will take two weeks," he said at the Kuala Lumpur Sports City (KLSC) 25th anniversary celebration press conference here last night.

Muse, which became popular through the songs Time Is Running Out, Supermassive Black Hole and Starlight, rocked Stadium Negara through their debut concert in Malaysia in 2007.

In the meantime, Mohd Faidz expects the grass replacement process to be fully ready by the end of September and the pitch will then be used for the Pestabola Merdeka tournament this October.

Besides the Harimau Malaya (Malaysia's national team), the Pestabola Merdeka, which is being organised again after a 10-year hiatus, will involve India, Palestine and Lebanon as the main challengers to the Kim Pan Gon-led squad.

At the same time, Mohd Faidz said the construction of the nursery next to the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium had also reached a progress level of more than 50 percent.

"Before, if the pitch was damaged we would fix it near the stadium ourselves, but after this we can remove the damaged patch and replace it with a new one from the nursery," he said.

Meanwhile, PSM chairman Datuk Hans Isaac is leaving it to the contractor to determine the appropriate time for the pitch to be ready for use after the grass replacement process has been successfully done.

JAKARTA: Indonesian police are investigating the illegal trade of human organs involving police and immigration officers who were accused of helping traffickers send 122 Indonesians to a hospital in Cambodia to sell their kidneys, police said Tuesday.

Indonesian authorities arrested 12 people, including a police officer and an immigration officer, on July 19, and police will continue to crack down on human smuggling syndicates conducting the illegal trade of human organs, said Hengki Haryadi, the Jakarta police director for general crimes.

He said all 122 victims, including factory workers, teachers and executives, had returned to Indonesia, and police were still searching a number of other victims whose testimony would be required by investigators.

A 10th suspect was accused of sending them to Preah Ket Mealea Hospital in Cambodias capital, Phnom Penh, for kidney transplant surgery.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has objected to a Sarawakian woman's application for leave to initiate a judicial review to seek for the Federal Territory Registrar of Muallaf to remove her name from the Register of Muallaf.

Federal Counsel Mohammad Sallehuddin Md Ali told the High Court that the application was not open to judicial review under Article 121 (1A) of the Federal Constitution, saying that the application was 'frivolous and vexatious and should be dismissed by the court'.

The woman's counsel, Iqbal Harith Liang argued that the application was not barred by Article 121 (1A) of the Federal Constitution.

"The Registrar of Muallaf's legal duty to decide the applicant's application to convert out of Islam is implied in Section 89 of the Administration of Islamic Law (Federal Territories) Act 1993 (Act 505). The applicant prays for leave to be granted for judicial review proceedings to be commenced against the respondents," he added.

After hearing the submissions from both parties, Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Md Shahid fixed Sept 21 to deliver his decision.

The 26-year-old woman filed the application on April 20 and named the Federal Territory Registrar of Muallaf, the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) and the government as the respondents.

Born to Christian parents, she sought a declaration that the Administration of Islamic Law (Federal Territories) Act 1993 (Act 505) gives jurisdiction to the first respondent (Registrar of Muallaf) to declare that a person is no longer a Muslim.

She also requested that her name be cancelled from the Register of Muallaf immediately, adding that its refusal or delay to make decisions on her application filed on Jan 30, Feb 20 and March 17, 2023, is irrational and unreasonable.

In her supporting affidavit the woman said on Aug 18, 2017, she converted to Islam and registered as a mualaf after a Malay Muslim man asked for her hand in marriage.

However, on Jan 27 last year, she pledged in an affidavit that she wanted to leave Islam and return as a Christian and applied to have her name removed from the registry to which the Registrar of Mualaf has yet to reply...

KUALA LUMPUR: Pasukan Petugas Agensi-Agensi Penguatkuasa Malaysia (MATF) yang diketuai Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) menahan seorang ahli perniagaan bergelar Datuk dan sekutunya dalam satu operasi besar-besaran Isnin lalu.

Operasi itu sekali gus melumpuhkan satu sindiket rasuah, pecah amanah, penyeludupan barang-barang haram dan pengurangan cukai tidak sah, pada 24 Julai 2023.

Dalam serbuan itu, MATF turut menyita wang tunai kira-kira RM38 juta, emas dianggarkan 200 kilogram bernilai kira-kira RM60 juta selain 17 kereta mewah antaranya berjenama Maserati, Ferrari dan Mercedes Benz.

Serbuan berkenaan dilakukan serentak di 34 lokasi di Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor dengan melibatkan kekuatan 315 pegawai pelbagai agensi.

Ketika dihubungi, Ketua Pesuruhjaya SPRM Tan Sri Azam Baki mengesahkan penahanan tersebut dan kes disiasat di bawah Akta SPRM 2009, Akta Pencegahan Pengubahan Wang Haram, Pencegahan Pembiayaan Keganasan dan Hasil Daripada Aktiviti Haram (AMLATFPUAA)2001, Akta Percukaian 1967 dan Akta Kastam 1967.

Operasi yang diberi nama Op 82S merupakan kes pertama yang dijalankan MATF yang dipengerusikan oleh Peguam Negara.

PETALING JAYA : PKR grassroot members in Kota Anggerik are unhappy with a decision by the party to field Najwan Halimi for the state seat following a recent comment he made which was laced with a racial slur.

Najwan courted controversy earlier this month after describing Parti Sosialis Malaysia as an Indian estate party. The deputy chief of Shah Alam PKR later took full responsibility for his statement and apologised.

A member who spoke on condition of anonymity said naming Najwan reflects badly on the party.

He also said Najwans nomination may cost PKR to lose votes among the Indian community.

Fielding someone who has made racist comments shows that the party is not bothered with its core values of fighting for all races.

Im an Indian myself and was left speechless when Anwar Ibrahim announced Najwan as the candidate, the source said, adding that many Indians in the party were uneasy about his candidacy.

Anwar has since defended Najwans selection, saying people make mistakes. The PKR president added that he had the final say in such matters.

But the source said Anwar, who is also the prime minister, should understand that this sort of justification gives the impression that PKR is no different from PAS.

PKR is known to call PAS out for its racial rhetoric towards the Chinese and Indians.

DAP's decision to drop seven incumbents, including five Penang State Government Excos, from contesting in the state PRN is a reform process implemented to ensure that the party remains dynamic and relevant in politics.

DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke said that the process is also a process that is expected to bring new life and it is something that every political party should do.

He explained that DAP also takes a balanced approach so that the Penang PRN candidates have new faces and old faces so that they can together build strength in the state.

"DAP will not hesitate in this process, because if we fail to implement this reform process our party will become irrelevant.

"We don't want to reach a stage where we are already behind before we make reforms," he said in a press conference after announcing the Penang and Kedah DAP candidates for the 15th PRN, here today.

Among the seven incumbents dropped by DAP from contesting in the Penang PRN include the five Excos of the state government administration namely Phee Boon Poh (Sungai Puyu); Soon Lip Chee (Bagan Jermal); Chong Eng (Pangkalan Kota), Yeoh Soon Hin (Terubong Swamp) and Dr. P. Ramasamy (Perai).


Also dropped are M. Satees (Bagan Dalam) and Lee Chun Kit (Rat Island).

According to Anthony, the reform process in which there are DAP figures dropped will be done every time the election takes place.

"One day I may also be replaced, so I want to state that the party is bigger than any leader, there is no leader who cannot be replaced, even Lim Kit Siang retired," he said.

In the meantime, when commenting on DAP figures including Ramasamy and Chong Eng who were dropped, Anthony said that the party made such considerations to give way and opportunity to new face candidates to serve the community.

"There are a number of figures such as Ramasamy who has served three terms as Deputy Chief Minister, while Chong Eng has served a total of six terms as an assemblyman and Member of Parliament since 1995.

"So, there is a need that we feel we need to give a chance to new faces, that's what we have decided," he said.

Meanwhile, he added, he is also confident that the incumbents who were not nominated in the PRN this time will not contest as independent candidates

PETALING JAYA: Founder of Malik Group of Companies, Abdul Malik Dasthigeer, or popularly known as Dato Malik has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today (June 25).

According to a source who spoke to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), Malik was detained by MACC in the morning under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla).

He is still being questioned by MACC and yet to be released, said the source.

Maliks group of companies also comprises Malik Streams Corporation Sdn Bhd, Malik Streams Properties Sdn Bhd, Malik Streams Antenna Movies Sdn Bhd, and Malik Streams Production & Distribution.

The businessman is popular in the entertainment scene for his work in bringing Indian artists and entertainers to perform in Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bekas Timbalan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif (CEO) Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), hari ini dilepas dan dibebaskan oleh Mahkamah Sesyen di sini atas pertuduhan mendapatkan suapan untuk bekalan 'Kurma For Ramadan Gift', empat tahun lepas.

Hakim Suzana Hussin memutuskan demikian selepas mendapati pihak pendakwaan gagal membuktikan kes prima facie terhadap Wafiy Abd Aziz, 38, di akhir kes pendakwaan.

"Sehubungan itu, mahkamah memerintahkan tertuduh dilepas dan dibebaskan daripada pertuduhan itu dan wang jaminan (RM12,000) dikembalikan," katanya.

Kes itu dikendalikan Timbalan Pendakwa Raya Nor Diana Nor Azwa manakala tertuduh diwakili peguam Datuk Dr Baljit Singh Sidhu.

Perbicaraan kes itu bermula pada Ogos 2021 dengan 24 saksi pendakwaan memberikan keterangan.

Wafiy, didakwa menggunakan jawatan itu untuk mendapatkan suapan, dengan meluluskan bayaran baucar EMGS bertarikh 3 Jun 2019 berjumlah RM12,175 kepada Mileeya Enterprise, untuk bekalan Kurma For Ramadhan Gift yang mana pemilik syarikat tersebut merupakan saudara tertuduh.

Kesalahan itu didakwa dilakukan di EMGS, Jalan Mayang Sari di sini, pada 3 Jun 2019, mengikut Seksyen 23 (1) Akta Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia 2009 dan boleh dihukum di bawah Seksyen 24 akta sama.

Seksyen itu memperuntukkan hukuman penjara maksimum 20 tahun dan denda tidak kurang daripada lima kali ganda jumlah atau nilai suapan yang menjadi hal perkara kesalahan itu, jika suapan itu dapat dinilai atau berbentuk wang atau RM10,000 mengikut mana-mana yang lebih tinggi, jika sabit kesalahan.

PUTRAJAYA: Presiden Filipina Ferdinand Marcos Jr. memulakan Lawatan Negara ke Malaysia mulai Selasa hingga 27 Julai.

Kunjungan itu merupakan lawatan sulung beliau ke negara ini.

Marcos akan diberikan sambutan negara oleh Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah di Istana Negara pada Rabu.

"Presiden Marcos Jr. akan menghadap Yang di-Pertuan Agong, diikuti Majlis Santapan Negara bagi meraikan presiden serta delegasinya," menurut kenyataan Kementerian Luar.

Marcos diiringi isteri Louise Araneta-Marcos dan delegasi yang terdiri Setiausaha Kabinet, ahli politik dan pegawai kanan kerajaan Filipina.

Menurut kenyataan itu, Marcos turut dijadual bertemu Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, dengan kedua-dua pemimpin dijangka bertukar-tukar pandangan mengenai isu dua hala, serantau dan antarabangsa yang berkepentingan bersama.

Lawatan itu menggambarkan jalinan persahabatan dan hubungan rapat antara kedua-dua negara selaku jiran rapat dan rakan kongsi di ASEAN, termasuk menerusi pertukaran lawatan di peringkat tinggi seperti lawatan rasmi Anwar ke Manila pada Mac 2023.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) arrested a total of 84 foreign women suspected of working as guest relations officers (GROs) at an unlicensed entertainment centre in Bukit Bintang here, on Sunday (July 23).

These women, aged 18 to 46, were arrested in a raid conducted by the Crime Prevention Unit, D7 Division of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department at 1.10 am.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that nine other individuals including the centre's manager and employees, aged between 31 and 45, were also arrested.

He said the police also inspected 22 local GROs and 46 employees as well as 336 customers and of that number six customers tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine.

"During the raid, the police also seized sales receipts, GRO employee receipts, liquor, one mobile phone unit, two video recorder units, two microphone units and RM14,862 in cash," he said in a statement today.

Razarudin said all detainees and seizures were taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for further investigation.

He added that the entertainment centre has a KTV concept that provides a total of 17 karaoke rooms according to payment packages, starting from RM3,800 to RM25,0000, as well as providing foreign and local GROs upon request with fixed payment rates.

"The centre which operates from 8 pm to 6 am every day was found to be operating without a valid entertainment centre licence while also abusing the restaurant licence issued by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

"PDRM advises all entertainment centre operators to comply with all regulations set if they want to run an entertainment business," he said.

Razarudin said PDRM will monitor the entertainment centres and stern action will be taken if there are still entertainment centre operators who carry out prohibited activities such as employing foreign GROs, prostitution and the sale/use of drugs at the premises.

Mesyuarat yang berlangsung lebih dua jam bermula 9 malam itu dihadiri oleh semua pimpinan utama PH termasuk Ketua Setiausaha Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, yang juga Setiausaha Agung PKR.

Saifuddin Nasution ketika dihubungi pemberita berkata mesyuarat itu antara lain membincangkan persiapan akhir PH bagi menghadapi Pilihan Raya Negeri (PRN) pada 12 Ogos ini.

"Mesyuarat berkenaan persiapan terakhir menjelang penamaaan calon... yang pengerusikan Perdana Menteri. Semua pimpinan utama PH ada," katanya.

Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya telah menetapkan PRN di Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Pulau Pinang, Kedah, Terengganu dan Kelantan dilaksanakan serentak dengan hari penamaan calon Sabtu ini.

This is mainly for investments in the targeted manufacturing sector that the government is encouraging through the upcoming New Investment Policy (NIP) and New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will provide immigration facilitation to strategic investors who make quality investments with a value of at least RM5 billion in Malaysia, as announced by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).

This is mainly for investments in the targeted manufacturing sector that the government is promoting through the New Investment Policy (NIP) and the upcoming New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, he said in a statement on Monday.

A strategic investor is defined as any strategic individual for investment, including company owners, top management and key decision makers.

Strategic investors can be granted a specially tailored Talent Residence Pass (RP-T) without the need to obtain an existing employment pass or have a previous working presence in Malaysia.

According to MITI, this pass, processed by Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp), will facilitate the entry and stay of eligible investors, as well as their spouses and dependents for up to 10 years in Malaysia.

He said RP-T fast track candidates are identified and proposed by certain agencies based on their investment value and/or potential for consideration by the RP-T Fast Track Committee.

MITI also announced details of immigration facilitation for nomadic workers, defined as digital freelancers, independent contractors and remote workers in the manufacturing sector targeted under NIP and NIMP 2030.

"The Digital Nomad Pass for the manufacturing sector will enable digitally or technically skilled foreign workers to stay in Malaysia with their spouses and dependents for up to two years, taking advantage of the DE Region Digital Nomad Pass introduced in October 2022 by the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC)," he said.

The presentation of passes by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to several investors and nomadic workers was held at the Prime Minister's Department yesterday.

MOSCOW: SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched 22 more Starlink satellites into orbit after two cancellations, the US private space company announced on Monday, Sputnik reported.

"Falcon 9 launched 22 (Starlink) satellites from SLC-40 (the launch pad at the north end of Cape Canaveral) in Florida," the company said, adding that the placement of all satellites had been confirmed.

The launch on Sunday was delayed twice due to bad weather.

Starlink is a satellite network designed to provide broadband internet access around the world.

To date, there are 4,200 Starlink satellites in Earth orbit since the project has been managed by Spacex owner Elon Musk since 2018.

KUALA LUMPUR: Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) tidak menolak kemungkinan suspek yang memasang dua botol plastik disyaki bahan letupan termampat (IED) di bahagian bawah kereta milik peguam Siti Kasim, Jumaat lepas, mempelajari teknik membuat bahan letupan itu menerusi internet.

Ketua Polis Negara Tan Sri Razarudin Husain berkata andaian itu berdasarkan soal siasat yang dijalankan sebelum ini terhadap suspek kes letupan bungkusan di hadapan sebuah restoran di Pandan Indah, Ampang Jaya, Disember lepas yang mengaku mempelajari pembuatan IED di internet.

"PDRM masih menjalankan siasatan motif pemasangan IED (pada kenderaan Siti Kasim) itu, bila bahan itu dipasang dan siapa suspek yang terlibat kes berkenaan," katanya kepada Bernama hari ini.

Beliau berkata polis sedang meneliti kamera litar tertutup (CCTV) yang diperoleh dari tempat kejadian bagi mengesan pihak yang bertanggungjawab meletakkan bahan letupan berkenaan di bawah kenderaan Siti Kasim.

Sementara itu, Ketua Polis Kuala Lumpur Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain dalam kenyataan memaklumkan setakat ini sembilan saksi telah dipanggil untuk dirakam percakapan bagi membantu siasatan kes berkenaan.

Pada Jumaat lepas, Siti Kasim membuat laporan polis berhubung penemuan dua botol plastik menyerupai bahan letupan yang diletakkan di brek bahagian tayar belakang kereta jenis Toyota Celica milik peguam dan aktivis sosial itu.

Siti Kasim menyedari objek tersebut ketika menghantar kenderaannya ke pusat servis kereta di Jalan Maarof, kira-kira 12 tengah hari.

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP announced today that it will contest 15 of the 16 Selangor State Legislative Assembly seats that the party won in the 14th General Election (GE14), in the Selangor state election next month.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the other seat won by the party in GE14, Dusun Tua, was handed over to Barisan Nasional (BN), after Pakatan Harapan (PH) decided to give way to a BN candidate to contest it in the election.

"We agreed to hand over (Dusun Tua) to BN on the condition that we have proposed and agreed to by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which is that if we (PH) win in Selangor, we will appoint a Speaker (Selangor State Assembly) from a DAP member who is not an assemblyman.

"DAP has agreed to propose Banting incumbent Lau Weng San who will not run in this election as a candidate for Speaker (of the Selangor State Assembly)," he said at a media conference to introduce the party's candidates for Selangor at the DAP headquarters here today.

He said the 15 seats DAP will contest in Selangor are Sekinchan, Kuala Kubu Baharu, Teratai, Balakong, Seri Kembangan, Kinrara, Subang Jaya, Bukit Gasing, Kampung Tunku, Bandar Utama, Bandar Baru Klang, Pandamaran, Kota Kemuning, Banting and Sungai Pelek.

Loke said DAP is fielding six new faces (in Selangor) this time, with most of the candidates under 50 years old and no candidate over 60 years old.

"This is a combination that we feel is good, we take all considerations into account, we have competent candidates who can integrate our machinery, move as a strong team.

"We thank the incumbents who were generous enough to give way to new faces brought by DAP," he said.

Six states - Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu - will go to the polls on Aug 12. Nomination is on July 29 and early voting on Aug 8.

 PM agreed to DAP's conditions before handing over the Dusun Tua seat  

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP proposes Lau Weng San as Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly if Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) is elected as the state government in Selangor.

DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke said it was a condition put forward by DAP following the handing over of the Dusun Tua state assembly seat to BN in this state election (PRN).

He said that the matter was agreed upon by Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding the proposal.

"Previously, Sekinchan State Assembly Member was the Speaker. So, when we hand over Dusun Tua, the condition we state is that we want a person who is not an assemblyman to replace the DUN Speaker's seat.

"Lau Weng San is the incumbent of the Banting seat. DAP will propose the Speaker of the Selangor State Assembly if PH-BN succeeds in forming the state government," he said at a press conference at the DAP headquarters today.

Previously, Loke reported that the party was a little disappointed when it handed over the Dusun Tua state seat held by the party to a BN candidate for PRN next August.

However, he said, his party has to comply with the decision because it has been finalized.

In a related development, Loke also informed that former Seri Kembangan assemblyman, Ean Yong Hian Wah, who was dropped by DAP from contesting in next month's PRN, is proposed as Chairman of the Klang Port Authority.

"We appreciate the incumbents who give way to new faces," he said.

Regarding the development of the Selangor PRN, Loke said, the party will field 15 candidates in the PRN this time.

He said, six new candidates were appointed this time, the rest were incumbents, thus making the combination of candidates competing this time balanced to ensure victory in all contested seats.

"There are three 34-year-old candidates, six new candidates out of 15 and all candidates are under 60 years of age.

"All those considerations are taken into account, which can ensure victory in contested seats. All 15 seats are DAP incumbents, of course facing fierce competition.

"Nevertheless, we have made considerations and decisions to ensure that the line-up of candidates can convince the voters, the party machinery together with PH and ensure that they all move as a strong team," he said

MUMBAI: A scene featuring a holy Hindu scripture in nuclear arms biopic "Oppenheimer" has drawn social media fire in India, with many users saying they would boycott the movie because of what one nationalist group called a "scathing attack on Hinduism".

The scene features the protagonist reciting a verse from the Bhagwad Gita, considered the holiest of Hindu scripture, just before sexual intercourse.

The film, which was released in India on Friday with much fanfare, was rated by the Central Board of Film Certification U/A, which recommends parental guidance for viewers aged under 12.

"This should be investigated... on an urgent basis and those involved should be severely punished," the nationalist "Save Culture Save India Foundation" said in a press release. Comments by the organisation's founder, government official Uday Mahurkar, condemning the movie were also retweeted more than 3,600 times.

Universal Pictures India, the local unit of the film's producers, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Officials from the film certification board did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The movie, directed by Christopher Nolan, stars Cillian Murphy as U.S. physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who oversaw the creation of the atomic bomb during World War Two.

It grossed around 600 million rupees ($7.33 million) since Friday, Warner Bros Discovery, which released the film in India, said on Monday.

SHAH ALAM: Mahkamah Sesyen di sini hari ini melepas dan membebaskan adik kepada ahli perniagaan Nicky Liow Soon Hee daripada tuduhan mengemukakan borang nyata cukai pendapatan secara tidak betul serta terlibat dalam transaksi hasil wang haram antara tahun 2017 hingga 2020.

Hakim Norazlin Othman membebaskan Liow Wei Kin, 30, selepas peguamnya, Datuk Rajpal Singh memaklumkan tertuduh telah membayar kesemua kompaun berjumlah RM4.174 juta melibatkan lapan pertuduhan yang terhadapinya sebelum ini.

Rajpal berkata kesemua pertuduhan itu tidak boleh disempurnakan dengan hanya dibatalkan (DNAA), justeru memohon Liow dilepas dan dibebaskan dengan kesemua wang jaminan dipulangkan di samping dilepaskan daripada semua syarat jaminan.

Norazlin kemudiannya memerintah Liow dilepas serta dibebaskan dan membenarkan kesemua permohonan yang dimohon Rajpal.

Terdahulu, Timbalan Pendakwa Raya, Syafinas Shabudin memohon kesemua pertuduhan Liow mengikut Akta Cukai Pendapatan 1967 dan Akta Pencegahan Penggubahan Wang Haram, Pencegahan Pembiayaan Keganasan dan Hasil Daripada Aktiviti Haram (AMLATFPUAA) 2001 itu dibatalkan.

Katanya, ia berikutan satu persetujuan penyelesaian telah dicapai melibatkan satu kadar kompaun yang dibayar pada 3 Julai lalu kepada kerajaan Malaysia.

Liow didakwa dengan tiga pertuduhan mengemukakan borang nyata cukai pendapatan secara tidak betul dengan meninggalkan pendapatan berjumlah RM2,672,500 yang boleh dikenakan cukai sebanyak RM686,376.45 bagi tiga tahun taksiran bermula 2017 hingga 2019 dan melakukan kesalahan di bawah perenggan 113(1)(a) Akta Cukai Pendapatan 1967.

Jika sabit kesalahan, dia boleh dihukum denda tidak lebih RM10,000 dan dikenakan penalti khas sebanyak dua kali ganda daripada amaun cukai yang terkurang bayar.

Liow turut dituduh atas satu pertuduhan mengemukakan borang nyata cukai pendapatan yang diperuntukkan di bawah subseksyen 77(1) Akta Cukai Pendapatan 1967 bagi tahun taksiran 2016, tanpa alasan yang munasabah dan melakukan suatu kesalahan subseksen 112(1) akta yang sama.

Jika disabitkan dia boleh didenda tidak lebih RM20,000 atau penjara tidak lebih enam bulan atau kedua-duanya sekali.

Bagi empat lagi pertuduhan mengikut AMLATFPUAA 2001, Liow didakwa melibatkan diri secara langsung...

Twitter Inc owner Elon Musk on Sunday signaled he would do more to take the social media company in a new direction with a rebranding that will replace its well-known blue bird logo with an X after acknowledging advertisers have been slow to return.

The change, which was not evident on the website on Sunday evening, followed Musk's recent admission that advertising revenue remains nearly half of what it once was. And Twitter's cash flow has been negative as a result of that and its heavy debt load.

Mike Proulx, research director at Forrester, said on Sunday that the move would further alienate Twitter's original, and once fiercely loyal, user base.

"On the one hand, you can make the argument he would be getting rid of an iconic brand. On the other hand, he is signaling it is a new day for what was once Twitter and that the company is heading in a different direction with a different user base."

The billionaire Musk said in a Sunday post he wanted to change Twitter's logo and polled his millions of followers whether they would favor changing the site's color scheme from blue to black. He posted a picture of a stylized X against a black outer space-themed background.

"And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds," he said.

Late Sunday afternoon, Twitter's new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, tweeted: "Its an exceptionally rare thing in life or in business that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square."

Under Musk's tumultuous tenure since he bought Twitter in October, the company has changed its business name to X Corp, reflecting the billionaire's vision to create a "super app" like China's WeChat.

In April, Twitter's legacy blue bird logo was temporarily replaced by Dogecoin's Shiba Inu dog, helping drive a surge in the cryptocurrency's market value.

The company came under widespread criticism from users and marketing professionals when Musk announced early this month that Twitter would limit how many tweets per day various accounts can read.

The daily limits helped Meta Platforms-owned rival service Threads, which crossed 100 million sign-ups within five days of its July 5 launch.

British band The 1975 said on Sunday they have cancelled shows in Taiwan and Muslim-majority Indonesia, a day after Malaysia banned them from performing there after their frontman kissed a bandmate on stage and criticised the country's anti-LGBT laws.

"Unfortunately, due to current circumstances, it is impossible to proceed with the scheduled shows," the pop rock group said in a statement, without elaborating.

Malaysia's government halted a music festival in the capital Kuala Lumpur on Saturday and barred The 1975 after what it called "disrespectful actions".

Homosexuality is a crime in Muslim-majority Malaysia. Rights groups have warned of growing intolerance against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

The events on Friday in Malaysia caused an uproar, angering not only the government, but members of the LGBT community, who said frontman Matty Healy's actions could expose LGBT people to more stigma and discrimination.

The 1975 were due to play on Sunday in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation, where homosexuality is a taboo subject, though not illegal except in sharia-ruled Aceh province.

Other LGBT-related events have also been cancelled in Indonesia due to objections from Islamic groups, including a planned visit last December by a U.S. LGBT special envoy, and the scrapping this month of a Southeast Asia LGBT event. Both came after pressure from religious conservatives.

It was not immediately clear why the band cancelled their July 25 show in Taiwan, which has a proud reputation as a bastion of LGBT rights and liberalism, including allowing same-sex marriage in 2019.

The bodybuilding world is in mourning after the tragic death of talented bodybuilder Justin Vicky, 33. The fitness community in Bali is in shock after learning of the fatal accident at Paradise Gym.

The accident occurred during an intense training session last Saturday. Justyn Vicky, an admired and respected athlete, was working with an impressive barbell weighing over 200 kilograms. Next to him was a colleague trying to avoid any kind of accident.

Unfortunately, it didn't go as planned. As he struggled to hold the bar to begin his routine, Justyn Vicky could not hold the weight and his legs gave way, initiating a fatal fall.

The immense weight fell onto his shoulders and continued on to the athlete's neck and head, causing major injuries.

Medical reports and the bad news

Reports from Bali Discovery indicate that the barbell struck Justyn Vicky's head so violently that the force tipped him forward, resulting in a neck fracture that compromised vital nerves linked to his heart and respiratory system.

Rushed to hospital, doctors did everything they could to save his life, but unfortunately, his injuries were so severe that he perished from them.

After the tragedy, Justyn Vicky's close friend Kang Gede shared his sadness in an emotional statement to Bali Express:

PONTIAN: The remains of the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, arrived safely at the residence of his mother, Aminah Abdullah, 83, in Kampung Serkat, Tanjung Piai, here, at around 3.35am on Monday.

Accompanying Salahuddin's body was his wife, Datin Seri Fatimah Taha and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

An hour before that, the body of the late Salahuddin who arrived at the Cargo Terminal of Senai International Airport via a special flight from Alor Setar, Kedah was greeted by family members and acquaintances.

Also welcoming the arrival of the body of the late Salahuddin was Johor Police Chief, Datuk Kamarul Zaman.

The body of the Pulai Member of Parliament is expected to be taken to the Jamek Dato' Haji Noh Gadot Mosque, here, to be prayed at 11 this morning, before being buried at Jalan Sulong Serkat Cemetery.
