KOTA TINGGI: The police have identified and will summon all five drivers of Lamborghini luxury cars who were spotted driving recklessly and dangerously on the Senai-Desaru Highway recently.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief, Superintendent Hussin Zamora said, all five drivers and their respective vehicles were successfully tracked through video recordings uploaded by members of the public on Friday.

He said that the 71-second video recording showed that the convoy of luxury cars was being driven in dangerous conditions by recklessly cutting other vehicles to the point of causing an accident.

"The act of driving the car dangerously was found to have been done on the Senai-Desaru Highway and the movement of the vehicle was from Senai towards Bandar Penawar because it was said to be involved in a program there.

"The action was recorded by members of the public and uploaded to the 'National Netizen Department' Facebook page on Friday around 9.13pm.

"Following the recording of the video, the police have managed to locate all the vehicles involved in Desaru at 11.40am on Saturday, in addition to identifying all the male drivers involved," he said in a statement on Saturday.

In the meantime, Hussin said that all the drivers involved, who are estimated to be between 44 and 64 years old, have been tracked down and will be summoned for questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 which is reckless and dangerous driving.

Section 42(1) APJ 1987, if convicted, imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years and a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000.

KUALA LUMPUR: The youngest candidate to contest in the State Election (PRN) involving six states is Melanie Ting Yi-Hlin, 23, while Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) Deputy Chairman MS Ravinder Singh, 80, is the oldest candidate.

Melanie, who is also the Malaysian Democratic Alliance Party (MUDA) Information Staff Head, is facing a three-way competition in the Bukit Antarabangsa State Assembly involving Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Mohd Kamri Kamaruddin and Shasha Lyna Abdul Latif from Perikatan Nasional (PN).

MS Ravinder Singh, who is also a former teacher, contested in Pantai Jerejak in a four-cornered contest against Fahmi Zainol (PH-PKR), Oh Tong Keong (PN-Gerakan) and MUDA candidate Loh Xiang Pin.

This PRN also saw the involvement of children and those who have family ties.

The wife of the former Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid, appeared together with her son, Mohd Najib Mohd Isa, who is the Deputy Head of UMNO Port Dickson, competing on the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket respectively in Juasseh and Bagan Pinang.

Bibi Sharliza, who is also Negeri Sembilan UMNO Women's Leader, will face Datuk Eddin Syazlee Shith (PN-Bersatu) while Mohd Najib faces a one-on-one contest with Abdul Fatah Zakaria (PN-PAS).

Also competing are Nurul Syazwani Noh and Danni Rais, who represent PN, respectively in Permatang State Assembly, Selangor and Klawang State Assembly, Negeri Sembilan.

Nurul Syazwani, who is also the son of former Selangor UMNO Relations Chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar, is up against Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri (PH-PKR) while Danni, the son of former Speaker of the National Assembly Tan Sri Rais Yatim, faces a three-cornered clash with Saiful Bahri Jaaman @ Sharman (Independent) and Datuk Bakri Sawir (PH-Amanah).

The Election Commission has determined that the PRN in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah as well as the by-election for the Kuala Terengganu Parliament will be held simultaneously with polling day on August 12 while early voting on August 8.

KUALA LUMPUR: Pertukaran saat akhir calon Pakatan Harapan (PH) yang bertanding pada Pilihan Raya Negeri (PRN) adalah proses biasa, kata Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Pengerusi PH itu berkata pertukaran yang melibatkan calon daripada partinya, PKR semestinya dilakukan selepas melihat terdapat keperluan untuk berbuat demikian.

"Kita (PH) ada tiga tukar (pada saat akhir), satu di Kota Damansara (Selangor) dan juga di Kelantan dan Terengganu," kata beliau ketika ditemui pemberita selepas bersarapan di sebuah restoran di Ampang Jaya di sini.

Perdana Menteri yang juga Presiden PKR bagaimanapun tidak memperincikan kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) mana di Kelantan dan Terengganu yang terlibat dalam pertukaran saat akhir itu.

Beliau berkata demikian ketika ditanya mengenai pertukaran saat akhir calon PKR di kerusi DUN Kota Damansara yang dimaklumkan Naib Presiden yang juga Pengerusi PKR Selangor Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, lewat malam tadi.

Anwar berkata bagi DUN Kota Damansara, pertukaran melibatkan Aidi Amin Yazid yang sebelum ini diumum sebagai calon, digantikan oleh Ketua Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Selangor Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim.

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Rail bekerjasama dengan Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) untuk memburu seorang lelaki disyaki mengalami gangguan mental yang telah bertindak agresif menceroboh trek transit aliran ringan (LRT) dan cuba mencabul salah seorang penumpang wanita di Stesen LRT Maluri, pada Jumaat.

Rapid Rail dalam satu kenyataan berkata, kejadian dilaporkan berlaku kira-kira jam 7.58 pagi, di platform 1 ke platform 2 LRT berkenaan.

BAYAN LEPAS: Sebagaimana dijangka, proses penamaan calon Perikatan Nasional (PN) bagi kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Bayan Lepas, seolah-olah diboikot apabila tiada langsung kelibat pimpinan Pas yang hadir memberi sokongan kepada calon mereka, Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai.

Ia dipercayai susulan konflik yang berlaku berhubung isu calon yang diputuskan Majlis Presiden PN yang menamakan Presiden Gerakan itu untuk bertanding di kerusi tersebut.

Di kerusi tersebut, Dominic bakal berdepan dengan penyandangnya, Azrul Mahathir Aziz dari Pakatan Harapan.

Terdahulu, Dominic yang tiba di pusat penamaan calon di Dewan Bukit Belah, Teluk Kumbar kira-kira jam 8.50 pagi ditemani kurang daripada 100 penyokongnya.

Meskipun kelihatan hambar, para penyokong tetap bersemangat melaungkan 'Perikatan Nasional, Jom Kalih dan Hidup Dominic' ketika mengiringi calon berkenaan Dominic memasuki dewan.

Sementara itu, sekitar 300 penyokong Pakatan Harapan ( PH) pula mengiringi calon mereka, Azrul Mahathir Aziz sambil berselawat serta laungan 'Penang elok dah.'

Media sebelum ini melaporkan timbul konflik membabitkan kerusi DUN Bayan Lepas apabila Pas DUN Bayan Lepas menyuarakan ketidakpuasan hati susulan hasrat Dominic untuk bertanding di kerusi berkenaan.

Mereka mengancam untuk memboikot proses penamaan calon sekiranya Dominic masih berkeras untuk bertanding di kerusi berkenaan.

Meletakkan Dominic di kerusi yang majoritinya orang Melayu mengundang risiko buat PN untuk memenangi PRN selepas pencalonan Presiden Gerakan itu dibantah majoriti ahli Pas.

Terdapat tiga DUN di bawah Parlimen Balik Pulau iaitu Bayan Lepas, Pulau Betong dan Teluk Bahang.

Gerakan Pulau Pinang akan bertanding 19 kerusi daripada 40 kerusi di bawah gabungan PN sementara Pas akan bertanding 10 kerusi, manakala Bersatu akan bertanding 11 kerusi.

Pada Pilihan Raya Umum ke-14 (PRU14), Azrul dari parti Amanah menang dengan majoriti 5,245 menewaskan Cikgu Rusli Hashim dari Barisan Nasional dan Zarina Shinta Madar dari Pas.

AMPANG: Penyandang kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Pandan Indah, Izham Hashim daripada Pakatan Harapan (PH) berdepan saingan empat penjuru di kerusi berkenaan dalam Pilihan Raya Negeri (PRN) pada 12 Ogos depan.

Pengerusi Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Selangor itu dicabar calon Perikatan Nasional (PN), Fazil Mohamad Dali, juga dikenali sebagai Ayahanda Cik Ton atau Cik Ton.

Turut memberi tentangan di kerusi berkenaan ialah Lisa Redzuan yang juga Timbalan Ketua Parlimen MUDA Bandar Tun Razak mewakili Parti Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (MUDA).

Dalam masa sama, seorang calon Bebas Sivaneswaran Ramasundram turut mengesahkan pencalonan di kerusi DUN Pandan Indah.

Sementara itu, kerusi DUN Teratai pula menyaksikan saingan satu lawan satu melibatkan dua muka baharu mewakili PH dan PN.

PH meletakkan Yew Jia Haur, manakala PN, Chew Han Keai.

Pengumuman rasmi calon di kedua-dua DUN berkenaan dibuat oleh Pegawai Pengurus Pilihan Raya DUN Pandan Indah, Julaihah Jamaludin dan Pegawai Pengurus Pilihan Raya DUN Teratai, Ahmad Alhairi Mohamed Yusuf di Pusat Penamaan Calon (PPC) Dewan Perbandaraan MPAJ Pandan Indah, di sini sekitar pukul 10.30 pagi.

Pada Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-14 (PRU14) Izham menang dengan majoriti 16,386 undi menewaskan calon Barisan Nasional (BN), Datuk Mohd Haniff Koslan dan Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad (Pas) di DUN Pandan Indah.

Sementara kerusi DUN Teratai pada PRU14 dimenangi calon Parti Warisan (Warisan), Bryan Lai Wai Chong dengan majoriti 29,425 undi menewaskan Mohd Irman Abdul Wahab (Pas) dan Liew Pok Boon (Barisan Nasional).

Beliau mengumumkan keluar parti DAP pada April 2021 untuk menjadi wakil rakyat bebas sebelum menyertai Warisan pada Januari 2022.

Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya menetapkan hari pengundian bagi enam negeri pada 12 Ogos, manakala hari undi awal pada 8 Ogos.

KUALA LUMPUR: Jabatan Siasatan dan Penguatkuasaan Trafik (JSPT) akan melaksanakan tindakan penguatkuasaan ke atas semua pengguna kenderaan di seluruh negara bagi mendidik dan memberi kesedaran kepada masyarakat supaya mematuhi undang-undang serta peraturan lalu lintas.

Timbalan Pengarah JSPT Bukit Aman Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar berkata penguatkuasaan itu memfokus kepada pematuhan peraturan lalu lintas meliputi Op Lampu Isyarat Merah, Op Nombor Pendaftaran, Op Halangan Lalu Lintas, Op Garisan Putih, Op Parkir Haram dan Kempen Op Didik.

Beliau berkata operasi penguatkuasaan akan dilaksana secara berterusan di semua kontinjen dan daerah dengan tumpuan di kawasan kerap berlaku kemalangan serta ketidakpatuhan peraturan lalu lintas.

"JSPT menasihati semua pengguna jalan raya supaya sentiasa mengikut peraturan yang telah ditetapkan dan memastikan undang-undang jalan raya dipatuhi tanpa kompromi.

"Kerjasama daripada orang ramai diharap dapat meningkatkan lagi kesedaran ke atas kepentingan menjaga keselamatan diri dan orang lain," menurutnya dalam kenyataan pada Jumaat.

Tinjauan Bernama mendapati ramai penunggang motosikal dan pemandu kenderaan mematuhi garisan putih iaitu kawasan yang dibenarkan berhenti ketika lampu isyarat merah dan tidak meletakkan kenderaan di kawasan petak kuning atau parkir berlapis yang boleh menghalang pergerakan lalu lintas.

Inspektor Penguatkuasa Trafik Kuala Lumpur Ahmad Mahfuz Mhd Zakaria berkata kesalahan masih berlaku tetapi sejak pelaksanaan Op Hormat pada 1 Julai lepas, jumlah saman yang dikeluarkan berkurangan berbanding awal bulan ini.

"Ini bermakna pengguna jalan raya semakin peka dan mematuhi undang-undang jalan raya, mungkin sebelum ini mereka sering tidak mengendahkan peraturan namun pelaksanaan Op Hormat mendidik orang awam dalam mengikut undang-undang lalu lintas," katanya.

Bagi Azreen Ariffin, 28, yang juga seorang guru, Op Hormat amat baik dalam memberikan kesedaran kepada pengguna jalan raya di ibu negara manakala kehadiran anggota polis yang bertugas di kawasan lalu lintas pada waktu puncak menjadikan mereka mematuhi peraturan.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Several roads around the Minor Basilica of St. Anne, here, will be closed to traffic from tomorrow (July 29) to Sunday in conjunction with the annual St Anne's Feast.

Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) police chief ACP Tan Cheng San said the closure of the roads will begin tomorrow from 9 am to 3 pm, and will involve the route from Bukit Mertajam to Kulim, Kedah and vice versa.

"The road to be closed will be Jalan Kulim from the Caltex petrol station heading towards the Taman Bukit Indah, Jalan Tenang, Jalan Taman B and Jalan Sepakat traffic light intersection.

"For road users from Kulim heading to Bukit Mertajam, they will be diverted to an alternative road, namely Jalan Kampung Baru towards Jalan Rozhan while from Kulim, they will be diverted to Jalan Sepakat and Jalan Taman B towards Jalan Kampung Baru," he said in a statement today.

He said the religious festival began on July 25, and traffic control by the police, including placing traffic officers at the main junctions, had been carried out but there were no road closures until tomorrow.

Tan said the church will hold a candlelight procession, starting at 7 pm tomorrow from the church's third gate headed along Jalan Berjaya and Jalan Kulim towards the church's main gate. The 1.8-kilometre procession will end at 11 pm.

He said the traffic control assignment for the celebration is expected to be completed by 3 pm on Sunday and the affected roads would then be fully reopened.

He hoped road users and the local community would cooperate to ensure smooth travel and public order.

According to the church's management, more than 50,000 people are expected to attend the five-day feast celebrated by Catholics.

KUALA LUMPUR: The six-state elections kick off today with the nomination of candidates at 173 centres across the states.

All the nomination centres will be opened at 9 am.

Prospective candidates representing political parties or contesting on an Independent ticket in the state elections in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu have until 10 am to submit their nomination forms to the returning officer at all nomination centres.

Apart from the 245 state seats, also to be held is the by-election for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat, which was declared vacant following the Terengganu Election Court's decision to nullify the victory of Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim of PAS in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The 14-day campaign period for the state elections and the by-election will begin after the official announcement of candidates is made by the returning officer and will run until 11.59 pm on Aug 11.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Aug 12 as the polling date for the state elections in Selangor, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan as well as the Kuala Terengganu by-election and early voting on Aug 8.

It is the first time the six states are holding their state elections separately from the General Election.

The State Assembly of Kelantan, which has 45 seats, was dissolved on June 22, followed by the 56-seat State Assembly of Selangor on June 23.

The 40-seat Penang State Assembly, 36-seat Kedah State Assembly, and 32-seat Terengganu State Assembly were dissolved simultaneously on June 28, while the 36-seat Negeri Sembilan State Assembly completed its full five-year term before being dissolved on July 1.

According to EC's statistics, a total of 9,773,571 registered electors were eligible to vote in the six state elections with Selangor having the highest number at 3,747,057; Kedah (1,585,085); Kelantan (1,411,912); Penang (1,234,198); Terengganu (930,894); and Negeri Sembilan (864,425).

KUALA TERENGGANU: The people of Terengganu need to rise and change their support to the Unity Government in the state election to be held this Aug 12, said UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said this election would be the most appropriate time for the people to express their support for the Unity government if they do not want to suffer the same fate as the people in the opposition-led states.

"We are afraid of what is happening in Kelantan, 33 years of unresolved water problems. For the people of Terengganu, don't let Pas rule (the state) for a second term, one term is enough.

"A leader only speaks the truth, when he makes promises, they must be fulfilled. An ulama should give the right advice," he added.

The government, he said, should also be fair to all the people and cited Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as an example.

He said the prime minister exercised fairness in solving problems, including in the opposition states, like the water issue in Kelantan.

KUALA LUMPUR: Mahasiswa Keadilan Malaysia today lodged a police report calling for an investigation into former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in connection with the award of government project tenders worth RM4.6 billion.

This follows allegations by Berjaya Group founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan regarding the cancellation of the Letter of Intent (LOI) awarded to Berjaya Group and the Naza Group joint venture (JV) company when the former prime minister led the government."We request the police to initiate an investigation into this matter," said Mahasiswa Keadilan Malaysia vice-chairman K.Yuveraaj after lodging the report at the Dang Wangi police station here today.

Earlier, the media had reported that Tan said the LOI relating to the contract for the Government Vehicle Supply, Repair and Maintenance Project (Fleet Project) was terminated three months after Muhyiddin took over as Prime Minister from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in March 2020.

Tan claimed the contract was terminated and awarded to Spanco Sdn Bhd at a higher price than the bids submitted by joint ventures Kumpulan Berjaya and Kumpulan Naza.

On July 17, the joint venture between Berjaya Group and Naza Group filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Finance for terminating the LoI offered to them.

DUNGUN: The Unity Government does not permit any Cabinet ministers or government leaders to benefit from government land or logging activities, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

He stressed that any minister or leader caught flaunting the ban would be terminated from their position.

"The biggest difference between the Unity Government and previous administrations is that this government does not permit government ministers or leaders to touch a single inch of public land nor a single piece of timber.

"If this happens, they will be stripped of their positions," he said during his speech at the Sentuhan Kasih Desa Terengganu programme at Bandar Al Muktafi Billah Shah here today, with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Central Terengganu Development Authority (KETENGAH) chairman, and several Cabinet ministers in attendance.

Anwar said there were certain parties that frequently slandered the government and played up religious sentiments but dared not ban their leaders from profiting from logging activities, contracts and shareholdings.

Anwar also said that the government has never betrayed Malaysians by reducing allocations as alleged by certain parties.

The prime minister said that with the improving economic situation, there is greater hope for the country to develop, and the government has even provided added allocations for infrastructure, including in opposition states.

AMSTERDAM: The car carrier burning off the Dutch coast since Tuesday night is carrying nearly 500 electric vehicles, significantly more than the 25 initially reported, ship charter company "K Line" said on Friday.

The fire on the Panamanian-registered Fremantle Highway, which was carrying new cars, resulted in the death of an Indian crew member and injury of seven others who jumped overboard to escape the flames.

There were 3,783 vehicles on board, including 498 battery electric vehicles, a Tokyo-based spokesperson for K Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha), which had chartered the vessel, said. He declined to say anything about the car brands, including whether or not it included any cars from Japanese manufacturers.

The coastguard said on its website Thursday the cause of the fire was unknown, but an emergency responder is heard in a recording released by Dutch broadcaster RTL saying "the fire started in the battery of an electric car".

EV lithium-ion batteries burn with twice the energy of a normal fire and maritime officials and insurers say the industry has not kept up with the risks.

An investigation has been launched by the Panama Maritime Authority and the Netherlands is assisting the inquiry, the Dutch Safety Board has said.

The 199-metre (653 ft) Fremantle, which is still burning, is drifting about 17 km from the northernmost Dutch coast, the coastguard said. It was on the way from Germany to Egypt.

The islands are on the northernmost tip of the Netherlands, and comprise part of the Wadden Sea, a vast area of tidal flats and marshland stretching along Germany and Denmark that is on UNESCO's World Heritage list.

SHAH ALAM: Mahkamah Tinggi di sini hari ini menjatuhkan hukuman gantung sampai mati terhadap dua warga asing selepas didapati bersalah membunuh seorang pemandu Grab warga tempatan lima tahun lalu.

Hakim Nurulhuda Nur'aini Mohamad Nor menjatuhkan hukuman itu ke atas warga Myanmar Sua Lay, 38, dan warga India Gurpreet Singh, 28, selepas pihak pembelaan gagal menimbulkan keraguan munasabah di akhir kes pembelaan.

Nurulhuda dalam penghakiman memaklumkan tiada pembelaan yang timbul dan berbangkit berhubung kejadian pembunuhan pemandu perkhidmatan p-hailing itu.

Katanya, hujahan kedua-dua tertuduh yang dimaklumkan kepada mahkamah bahawa mereka tidak memahami bahasa Melayu juga tidak boleh diterima kerana tertuduh mampu memberikan arahan kepada mangsa untuk berhenti awal dari tempat asal yang dituju oleh mereka.

Selain itu, Nurulhuda berkata kedua-dua tertuduh mampu untuk memandu arah kepada penemuan kunci kereta jenis Perodua Myvi milik mangsa (ketika proses siasatan polis).

"Mangsa dijerut dan ada kecederaan pada leher. Selain itu ada penemuan ujian asid deoksiribonukleik (DNA) kedua-dua tertuduh pada tali pinggang keledar bahagian pemandu.

"Walaupun ia tidak dikatakan (pembunuhan) zalim, tetapi fakta mayat (mangsa) ditinggal begitu sahaja dalam kereta.

"Ini menunjukkan tertuduh tiada mempunyai perasaan belas kasihan terhadap si mati.

"Atas alasan itu, saya bersetuju hujahan pihak pendakwaan dan (menjatuhi) hukuman gantung sampai mati kepada tertuduh," katanya.

Sua Lay dan Gurpreet sebelum ini didakwa di Mahkamah Majistret Selayang pada 16 Julai 2018 atas pertuduhan membunuh seorang pemandu Grab, pada 21 Jun tahun yang sama.

The couple finally made it official and tied the knot on Thursday in Geneva, Switzerland, surrounded by friends and family.

Brazilian Formula One racer Felipe Massa, 42, shared the good news on his Instagram account on Friday, congratulating the lovebirds with a sweet message (Happy marriage #JeanTodt & #michelleyeoh love you so much).

Todt, 77, first met Yeoh, 60, in Shanghai, China, on June 4, 2004, and after 1 months of dating, the French Formula One legend and motor racing executive popped the question on July 26, 2004.

Yeoh kept her style elegant and classy for her big day, as seen in the photos shared by Massa.

She wore a white silk button-up top and a tiered skirt for the wedding solemnisation, and was dressed in a champagne gown with an embellished corseted bodice at the after-party.



Meanwhile, her groom looked dashing in a navy suit.

KUALA LUMPUR: Seorang pegawai penguat kuasa yang pernah bertugas di Suruhanjaya Tinggi Bangladesh antara dua individu ditahan kerana disyaki menerima rasuah dianggarkan lebih RM100 juta sejak 2021.

Sumber berkata pegawai penguat kuasa itu dipercayai menerima rasuah bagi meluluskan permohonan visa oleh warga Bangladesh memasuki Malaysia yang kononnya untuk tujuan melancong.

"Hasil siasatan mendapati pegawai itu dipercayai bersubahat dengan agensi pekerjaan di Bangladesh dan Malaysia dengan sengaja menyalahgunakan Visa Luar Negara (VLN) membawa masuk rakyat Bangladesh untuk bekerja di Malaysia sejak 2021.

"Selain itu, siasatan juga mendapati pegawai itu dipercayai menerima bayaran sekitar RM1,363 (US$300) ke RM2,272 (US$500) bagi setiap kelulusan permohonan VLN melibatkan jumlah rasuah dianggarkan lebih RM100 juta meskipun pembayaran visa yang ditetapkan oleh kerajaan hanya RM105 sahaja," kata sumber itu.

Susulan itu, Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) menahan seorang lagi individu dipercayai pengarah urusan syarikat pembekal tenaga kerja yang disyaki bersekongkol dengan pegawai penguat kuasa terbabit.

Sumber berkata kedua-dua lelaki berusia lingkungan 30-an itu dipercayai ditahan kira-kira 6.30 petang semalam ketika diminta hadir di ibu pejabat SPRM Putrajaya.

"Pegawai penguat kuasa yang ditahan itu merupakan pegawai agensi penguat kuasa ketiga yang ditahan untuk membantu siasatan Op Taka yang dilancarkan April lepas oleh Bahagian Pencegahan Pengubahan Wang Haram SPRM dengan kerjasama Jabatan Imigresen.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Allo's Rahmah Fixed Broadband Package under the Rahmah Package initiative offers a fixed broadband subscription price of only RM69 for a 24-month contract, according to Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil.

He said that Allo's Rahmah plan provides internet service with unlimited data throughout the contract period, enabling the subscribers to save RM30 compared to the normal package offered by the company, which costs RM99.

"Malaysians from targeted groups of B40, senior citizens, personnel of Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police, maritime enforcement agency, as well as persons with disabilities are eligible to get subscribe to the plan which comes with a speed of 100 megabits per second (Mbps)," he said in conjunction with the launch of the Allo's Rahmah Fixed Broadband Package here today.

The package is a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Communications and Digital, Allo Technology Sdn Bhd and Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

Fahmi said that the package covers both urban and rural areas, particularly in public housing areas, in Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Perak, Penang, and Kedah which are within Allo's coverage area.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said that the package can be described as a gesture of compassion to assist the targeted groups while also building a more sustainable nation and fostering a more innovative and creative population to ensure well-being through the digital economy.

"Internet service is no longer deemed a luxury, it is now considered as a basic utility. The Internet has also become a platform to earn a living, whether in terms of job opportunities or as a digital business platform for micro-entrepreneurs," he said.

The minister said the government takes the welfare of the people seriously, aiming to provide them with the best and more affordable Internet services through the Rahmah Package initiative.

The President and his wife were later feted to a tea reception at the Istana 

President Marcos Jr, who was inaugurated as the 17th President of the Philippines in June last year, is on a three-day State visit to Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: Ringgit susut berbanding dolar Amerika Syarikat (AS) pada sesi awal urus niaga Jumaat apabila mata wang negara maju itu mengukuh selepas pengumuman angka keluaran dalam negara kasar (KDNK) lebih positif bagi suku kedua 2023.

Pada 9 pagi, ringgit susut kepada 4.5490/5525 berbanding dolar AS daripada 4.5215/5260 pada akhir urus niaga semalam.

Ketua Ahli Ekonomi dan Kewangan Sosial Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid berkata pengumuman data KDNK AS semalam menunjukkan ekonominya kekal berdaya tahan biarpun mengalami kenaikan kadar faedah secara besar-besaran sejak tahun lepas.

"Data KDNK bagi suku kedua 2023 itu mencatat kenaikan 2.4 peratus berbanding jangkaan awal pada 1.8 peratus manakala tuntutan pengangguran juga turun kepada 221,000 minggu lepas -- lebih rendah berbanding jangkaan pasaran sebanyak 235,000.

"Berikutan itu, Indeks Dolar AS meningkat sebanyak 0.88 peratus kepada 101.77 mata," katanya kepada Bernama.

Berdasarkan perkembangan itu, beliau menjangkakan ringgit di paras RM4.52 hingga RM4.53 hari ini berikutan pasaran terus memantau sama ada Rizab Persekutuan AS akan menaikkan kadar faedah utamanya dengan lebih ketara berikutan data yang lebih baik daripada jangkaan awal.

Sementara itu, ringgit diniagakan kebanyakannya tinggi berbanding kumpulan mata wang utama.

Ia susut berbanding yen Jepun kepada 3.2619/2646 daripada 3.2285/2319 pada Khamis, namun meningkat berbanding euro kepada 4.9948/9986 daripada 5.0374/0424 dan mengukuh berbanding pound Britain kepada 5.8186/8231 daripada 5.8685/8743 semalam.

Ringgit diniagakan kebanyakannya rendah berbanding mata wang Asean lain termasuk susut berbanding dolar dolar Singapura kepada 3.4170/4198 daripada 3.4163/4200.

Unit tempatan itu rendah berbanding rupiah Indonesia kepada 303.2/303.6 daripada 301.3/301.8 dan turun berbanding peso Filipina kepada 8.30/8.32 daripada 8.28/8.30 semalam.

Namun, ringgit mengukuh berbanding baht Thailand kepada 13.1702/1861 daripada 13.2634/2829 , sebelum ini.

PUTRAJAYA: Seorang penjual kasut terpakai dilepaskan dan dibebaskan oleh Mahkamah Rayuan di sini daripada pertuduhan melakukan samun berkumpulan di sebuah premis perniagaan dobi layan diri pada 2017.

Panel tiga hakim terdiri daripada Hakim Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera, Datuk M. Gunalan dan Datuk S.M. Komathy Suppiah membenarkan rayuan Nur Mohd Rusydi Abdul Raman pada Selasa (25 Julai) untuk mengetepikan sabitan dan hukuman penjara 10 tahun dan dua sebatan yang dijatuhkan Mahkamah Sesyen ke atas perayu.

Vazeer berkata terdapat merit dalam rayuan Nur Mohd Rusydi.

Beliau berkata semasa memikirkan fakta dan keadaan kes, sabitan Nur Mohd Rusydi berdasarkan pengecaman di dalam mahkamah, adalah tidak selamat.

Beliau berkata Mahkamah Sesyen dan Mahkamah Tinggi terkilaf ketika mendapati pihak pendakwaan telah membuktikan kes melampaui keraguan munasabah.

Pada 3 Jan 2020, Mahkamah Sesyen mendapati Nur Mohd Rusydi bersalah terhadap pertuduhan itu dan menjatuhkan hukuman penjara 10 tahun penjara dan dua sebatan.

Dia kemudian merayu di Mahkamah Tinggi terhadap sabitan dan hukuman yang dijatuhkan ke atasnya tetapi rayuannya ditolak pada Mei 2021.

Nur Muhd Rusydi, 31 dituduh melakukan samun dengan sebilah parang dan merompak gelang tangan dan rantai emas serta wang tunai RM1,500 daripada Badariyah Baharuddin di sebuah premis dobi layan diri 24 jam di Taman Sri Gombak pada pukul 11.32 malam, 1 Sept 2017.

Sementara itu, individu lain Mohd Adib Yoosna yang dituduh secara berasingan tetapi dibicarakan bersama-sama Nur Mohd Rusydi didapati bersalah oleh Mahkamah Sesyen di atas kesalahan sama dan dijatuhkan hukuman penjara 10 tahun dan satu sebatan. Dia tidak merayu terhadap hukuman itu.

Berita mengenai rompakan itu tular di halaman Facebook "Info Roadblock JPJ/Polis," "Tanjong Karang," dan "Vat 69-Perjuangan" pada 2017.

Japan were drawn to face North Korea and Syria in Asia's preliminaries for the 2026 World Cup on Thursday, while South Korea will face China and Thailand when the second round of the continent's qualifiers kick off in November.

The Japanese will also take on the winners of a playoff between Myanmar and Macau, to be held over two legs on Oct. 12 and 17, while Korea's group is completed by either Singapore or Guam.

Australia, who reached the knockout rounds at the 2022 World Cup before losing to eventual champions Argentina, will feature in Group I alongside Palestine, Lebanon and either the Maldives or Bangladesh.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today was told that the investigation paper (IP) submitted by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) with the recommendation to initiate criminal prosecution and to charge 1MDB including the senior officers was classified as no further action (NFA).

Former BNM Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, 76, said despite all the damning evidence gathered and recorded by BNM in the IP on 1MDB, the then Attorney-General (Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali) for reasons unknown had on Sept 11, 2015, decided that the IP submitted by the central bank was to be classified as NFA.

The 46th prosecution witness said the IP was submitted as the 1MDB and its officers were found to have contravened the provision under the Exchange Control Act 1953 (ECA) for furnishing false information to BNM in the 1MDB application for permission to make payments outside Malaysia.

"At BNM's press conference on the second quarter GDP, which took place on Aug 13, 2015, it was mentioned that BNM had completed its investigations on 1MDB, relating to the areas that were within its purview and legislative powers. Concerning Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's accounts, BNM had provided all the relevant information to the respective law enforcement agencies," she said.

Zeti further said, BNM wrote back to the AGC on Oct 1, 2015, to reconsider the decision (NFA) and further stressed the omission of material information by 1MDB in its application for the foreign exchange administration (FEA) permission.

"1MDB had not only failed to provide full and complete information in its applications for the FEA permission but had provided false information. The AGC however did not reply to BNM's appeal.

Zeti said this when reading out her witness statement during examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib at Najib's trial involving the misappropriation of RM2.3 billion of 1MDB funds.

Zeti added pursuant to BNM's legislation, BNM proceeded to revoke the three permissions granted to 1MDB and issued directions to 1MDB to repatriate back to Malaysia all funds that were illegally and falsely remitted abroad.

PORT DICKSON: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim berkata isu tidak puas hati sesetengah pihak berhubung senarai pencalonan yang diumumkan menjelang Pilihan Raya Negeri (PRN) di enam negeri pada 12 Ogos ini adalah perkara biasa pada setiap pilihan raya.

Perdana Menteri, yang juga Pengerusi Pakatan Harapan (PH), yakin pemilihan calon telah diadakan sebaik mungkin sebagai persediaan PRN di Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Terangganu, Kelantan, Kedah dan Pulau Pinang.

"Dalam dunia ni, dalam pilihan raya, tiada yang semua berpuas hati...jadi kita dengar dan hormat serta cuba terangkan tetapi tidak akan memuaskan hati semua pihak. Saya fikir telah buat sebaiknya," katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian kepada pemberita selepas majlis penyerahan watikah pencalonan kepada enam calon PKR di Negeri Sembilan bagi PRN kali ini.

Ditanya sama ada isu itu akan menjejaskan sokongan parti, Anwar, yang juga Presiden PKR, berkata setakat ini keadaan terkawal dan semua pihak perlu memberi peluang kepada calon baharu.

"Sepatutnya sekarang giliran yang lain, kita pun perlu ada pelapis, tidak boleh seorang itu kekal selamanya," katanya.

Mengenai manifesto PRN, Anwar berkata ia akan dilakukan mengikut negeri masing-masing.

Terdahulu, Anwar menyerahkan watikah kepada Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun yang dicalonkan untuk bertanding bagi kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Sikamat, Tengku Zamrah Tengku Sulaiman (Ampangan), Nur Zunita Begum (Pilah), Ismail Ahmad (Labu), Yew Boon Lye (Chuah) dan Dr Rajasekaran (Sri Tanjung).
